N-Prize article in UK Wired - PHOTOS NEEDED!

Postby pauldear » Tue Aug 25, 2009 6:00 pm

Hi all,

The UK edition of Wired has asked if they can do a feature about the N-Prize, but they will want lots of images. They are (as I understand it) happy to do photoshoots with teams in the UK, and will also be happy to recieve photos from overseas teams (I'm not sure yet if they'll do overseas photoshoots).

In the first instance, they'd like to see any photos that the teams have, to give them an idea of the sort of things that might be available for the article. If anyone has anything, please let me know!

Best

Hi Paul

Happy to do a photoshoot with the rest of our UK team, or we could provide a team photo if that helps.

Also, do you know what part of an n-prize entry would most suit the picture requirements for the mag, eg electronics, mechanical or completed assembly and the urgency with which they're needed. If its not too soon then they might be able to have a picture or two of our liquid engine test rig.

Cheers

Hi Peter, at this stage, they're just looking for existing photos so they can get an idea of what is out there (they'll then do a photoshoot, unless the existing photos are exactly what they need). They said they're looking for as great a diversity as possible, so in theory anything would be good to start. I'm guessing that they'll want some shots of hazardous looking hardware (flames and pointy bits), but also some more technical stuff (eg, sub-assemblies), launch or test shots (where these exist)....almost anything at this stage.

Thanks also for the quick response. How are things going with you and your fellow Nebulites?

Best,
Paul

Hello Paul,

I know it's a little too soon, but if the Wired magazine searches for photos from the oversea teams, we have some photos of our team, and if we have time, some photo shoots of the engine tests.

That would be excellent! If you have any photos now, even low-res, it would be great if you can send them; at this stage, they really just want an idea of what kind of images they'll be able to get, so they can start to plan things. You're welcome to email them to me (info AT n-prize.com), and of course I'll credit all photo sources.

Best,
Paul

Are we too late to get in on this? We just got an HD camera for NSE-2. A Sony in fact its an european model not available in the states a HDR-TG3E. We intend to jump stright to a zero pressure balloon for NSE-2 of our own design and try for a higher altitude than the weather balloons can reach.

Hi Monroe,

No, not too late. I asked the guy if he could wait a while, and he said he's be happy to wait until we have a bunch of stuff. So, I'll put together a little "portfolio" in the next couple of weeks. At this stage, images don't need to be top-quality; he just wants an idea of what sort of stuff is out there. We're a bit short on photos of rocket-shaped things at the moment; and flames always go down well!

Yesss! UK Wired have agreed to do a feature on the N-Prize. Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed photos for the "pitch" - as stated, no photos will be used in the article without permission. They will also be hoping to interview and photograph UK/European teams at least, but my understanding is that US, Australian teams etc will also get a look-in.

More details soon - thanks again to everyone.
