Steersman Technology is a small UK based engineering consultancy which primarily works in the defence and government sectors. Our original background is in aerospace engineering, with members of the team having worked in the past on Tornado and E3-D Sentry aircraft with a bit of Eurofighter thrown in.
We're interested in the N-Prize challenge for a number of reasons:
- Using it as a training exercise for our new undergraduate training programme we are initiating
- Trying out some of our new design, development and modelling tools and processes
- Provides us with an interesting and unique engineering challenge
We are going to treat the N-Prize as one of our formal engineering projects. For the first stages of the project we're going to:
- Go through the rules in detail and turn them into a requirements decomposition. This will help us bound potential solutions at the highest level.
- Come up with high-level potential design solution options. Nothing is to bizarre or crazy at this stage.
- Perform trade studies on the design solution options. This will rule some options out immediately.
- Perform conceptual analysis on the remaining options. This will identify a prime candidate option.
- More detailed conceptual analysis will be performed and the project will then move into a detailed design phase.
We plan to make the artefacts we develop as the stages of the project progress available and will post them or links to them here. Our project page (not much on it yet!) can be found at:

Best wishes,
Chris
