Today is the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first orbital flight.

Although it would have been nicer if he'd waited one year and fifteen days (until the day I was born!), here's to Yuri.

It's a pity that we don't have any Russian teams on board...We do have one team from Ukraine (hi, Catapult!), and one from Georgia....but I think that's the state, not the country!

I was nine and that was one of four things that kindled my interest in space; the others being the X-15, the realistic TV series "Men Into Space", and Alan Shepards flight (I still have a plastic Mercury capsule pencil sharpner). Those early spacemen had "the Right Stuff".

57 years have passed.
When, finally, the amateur sputnik will be launched?! :)
